Focus On Results
At KIPP Academy Houston, 97% of fifth graders passed the reading portion of the 2001 Texas Assessment of Academic Skills (TAAS), while in all other areas and grade levels, they achieved a 100% passing rate.
KIPP Academy Bronx now ranks in the top 10% in New York City for achievement in both reading and math.
The students at KIPP DC KEY Academy showed a first year increase in the Stanford 9 test of 22 percentage points.
After one year at KIPP Gaston College Preparatory, 93% of the students passed the reading section of the state tests, compared to only 49% before entering the school.
At KIPP 3D Academy in Houston, 80% of students passed the TAAS reading portion, compared to 57% before entering the school; 94% passed TAAS math, compared with 64% prior to enrolling at KIPP 3D.
While 99% of KIPP's students are from minority groups and 92% receive free meals through the federal school lunch program, KIPP makes no excuses based on race, gender, socioeconomic status or disability.
KIPP schools have been extremely successful at helping students gain entrance to top public and private high schools that have a proven track record of college matriculation. Last year, eighth grade KIPP students earned more than $4 million in high school scholarships.
